OUR MISSION

...is to help older people in our community who have physical, mental or emotional limitations to maintain and/or improve their level of functioning so they can enjoy their later years.

We believe that human beings regardless of age or degree of impairment, can benefit from continuing to participate in the life of a community where they are accepted and have opportunities to experience a sense of purpose and success. Our members are not pressured to be anyone they are not, and they are encouraged to be everything they can.

WHO WE ARE

Park Slope Geriatric Day Center was established in 1983 as a freestanding, nonprofit, community-based agency to provide services to older adults who have "aged out" of traditional senior centers but want to stay active in their community. PSGDC is a recognized leader in the field. Today our services include social day programming at two facilities, a hot meal program, handicapped accessible transportation, and case management.

The Family Resource and Adult Day Services Center, opened in 1999 and was designed and built specifically for the Alzheimer's and dementia programs.

In the fall of 2002, the New York City Department for the Aging chose 11 agencies to host specially funded programs to support caregivers of older persons, including spouses and children of aging parents. PSGDC was chosen and began the Family Caregiver Project, which serves a band of Brooklyn neighborhoods from Brooklyn Heights to Sheepshead Bay.
