MATCHING GIFTS!
Employee Corporate Giving Progra ms, often called Matching
Gift Programs, are a wonderful way to increase your gift to
an organization you support.
Companies frequently match or double a monetary gift made to
a charity by an employee. Some companies may also contribute
financially to match employees’ volunteer efforts.
At Park Slope Geriatric, a
member of our B oard of Directors, Bill Oliver has been using
his company’s matching gift program for over a decade.
At his company, the forms are available online through an internet
site and can be downloaded easily.
“The forms are simple
to fill out,” Bill noted, “and the company allows
us to match any number of contributions up to a dollar limit
depending on the employee’s level in the company (ranging
from $250-$2,000 annually). At my company, you can give them
a cancelled check from any contribution to a charitable organization
or send them your check for a contribution with a form, and
they will send both checks at the same time.”
How do I get my gift
matched?
Ask in your company’s
Human Resources Office if they match charitable gifts. Each
company has its own guidelines for employees, spouses, retirees,
and widows/widowers.
Most corporate procedures
are very simple:
1. Request a Matching Form
from your company.
2. Complete and submit the
form to PSGDC along with your gift.
3. PSGDC will verify the
completed form and return it to the company.
4. The company issues a matching
gift contribution to PSGDC.
5. You will receive a notice
from PSGDC that your company’s matching gift has been received.
Please note that this can take 12 months from the date of your
gift.
Completed
forms can be sent with your personal gift to:

PSGDC
UP TO THE CHALLENGE
FJC,
a foundation of donor advised funds, has offered PSGDC a challenge
grant. PSGDC’s Board of Directors must raise $45,000 in
private donations during the period from July 1, 2004, to June
30, 2005. (Funds used to purchase event tickets, or for raffles
and auctions do not count towards the challenge grant.) If we
meet this challenge, they will give us $45,000—the combined
$90,000 must be used to reduce the agency’s outstanding
debt of $159,000 on a loan taken to renovate and open the Adult
Day Services Center at 1 Prospect Park West in 1999.
FJC is offering us a wonderful opportunity, and we will be working
very hard to meet this challenge, while also conducting the
Annual Fund drive that supports the transportation program.
Since we will be celebrating PSGDC’s 20th Anniversary
year starting in Spring 2005, it seems a fitting time to take
on and meet yet another challenge.
Consider
a Bequest
Naming Park Slope Geriatric Day Center in a will is an effective
way to provide for its future without neglecting current responsibilities.
Whether you are making a will for the first time or adding a codicil
to an existing will be sure to consult an attorney. A bequest
to PSGDC is not subject to federal or state inheritance taxes.
Your estate receives a tax deduction for the full fair-market
value of your bequest. A will is essential if you wish to make
a bequest to Park Slope Geriatric Day Center. If you would like
more information about how to use your will to accomplish your
charitable objectives, please contact Marianne Nicolosi, Executive
Director, by email or
call her at (718) 499-7701.
