Take Us Out to the Ballgame - for PSGDC!

Park Slope Geriatric Day Center took over Shea Stadium on Thursday, July 6. The Mets were playing the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the game was a success on all levels.

Not only did the Mets come out victorious in a 7-5 win, but PSGDC board members, staff, and friends experienced a beautiful night and some great conversations.

This was the perfect opportunity to bring together old friends and new ones as well, and to do it in a way where everyone left with some great baseball and a few hundred verses of “Take me Out to the Ballgame” under their belt. This was PSGDC’s first sporting event fundraiser, and requests are already being made for a repeat performance. The Kings of Queens really did lead to a great night with fun had by all.

We would like to thank everyone who attended for supporting PSGDC. We can’t wait to see you all decked out in your best blue and orange ensemble next year.

Did you ever wish that you could do more for PSGDC but didn’t know how? Well, here is your chance.

PSGDC has signed up as a beneficiary of goodsearch.com, an internet search engine that is powered by Yahoo. By using this website, each search that you do will generate approximately $.01 for PSGDC. With many searches and many weeks, that money will start to add up.

To use the site, 1) go to www.goodsearch.com, and 2) where it asks you to enter a charity, type in “Park Slope Geriatric Day Center.”

This is an easy and free way of adding funds to our mission, one that is rooted in the assurance of quality and enjoyment of life for Brooklyn’s elders and their caregivers.

The GoodSearch website is easy and fun to use, and can be easily accessed from work or from home. Now you can find information online and support our work at the same time!

Please plan to join us for a special cocktail reception and screening of the film, “Still Doing It,” followed by a discussion with the filmmaker and four women from the film.

Flying in the face of this culture’s extreme ageism, “Still Doing It” explores the lives of older women. Partnered, single, straight, gay, black and white, nine extraordinary women, age 67-87, express with startling honesty and humor how they feel about themselves, sex, and love in later life and the poignant realities of aging.*

With a description like this it is no wonder that this documentary, written and directed by Park Slope’s own Deirdre Fishel, is an award winner. An honest, open look into the politics and personal realities of sex over 65, this is a film not to be missed. Beneficial to audiences both young and old, this documentary takes an honest look at our own hang-ups regarding sexuality in older bodies.
