NEW
CAREGIVER PROGRAM

Dear
Friends, Happy New Year!
It is a time for resolutions, fresh beginnings, and new projects.
With the support of a contract awarded by the New York City
Department for the Aging (DFTA), PSGDC is launching a new program
to provide assistance and services to caregivers.
The contracts were given in late October to ten community agencies
in all five boroughs. This is an exciting new step for the agency—it
will allow us to help the entire family and not only the person
requiring Adult Day Services. Together we can weave a tighter
safety net to prevent older people in need from slipping through
the gaps.
Programs for caregivers are already offered through the our
Saturday Respite program and Wonderful Wednesdays pro-gram at
1 Prospect Park West, both of which have been supported by grants
from the Stella and Charles Guttman Foundation and the Altman
Foundation. The extra evening and weekend hours allow caregiv-ers
to catch up on errands, work, rest or have an evening out.
The new contract has allowed us to expand Wonderful Wednesdays
to offer Caring for Elders, monthly educational and support
sessions for caregivers that are scheduled on Wednesday evenings.
Please call us if you would like to participate. Telephone support
sessions in English and Spanish are also underway.
An outreach coordinator will target efforts to reach isolated
caregivers, and an additional grant from the Federation of Protestant
Welfare Agencies will allow us to offer full Benefits Counseling
to caregivers and clients throughout our community.
You’ll be hearing more about the new program from us in

Amigos: Feliz Año Huevo!
Esta es la oportunidad para resoluciones, comienzos y pro-yectos
nuevos. Con el apoyo de un contrato otorgado por El Depart-amento
de los Envejecientes (DFTA), PSGDC esta lanzando un programa
nuevo para proveer asistencia y servicios para los encargados
de cuidar ancianos.
Los contratos fueron dados a diez agencias de la comunidad al
final de Octubre en los cinco condados. Este es un paso nuevo
y excitante para la agencia—nos permitiría ayudar no solamente
a la familia completa, y no solo a la persona que requiere Servicios
Diurnos para Adultos. Juntos podemos establecer una red de seguridad
fuerte para prevenir que las personas mayores sean ignoradas.
Los programas para encar-gados de cuidar ancianos ya son ofrecidos
atraves de nuestro Programa de Respiro los Sábados y al programa
de Miércoles Maravillosos en 1 Prospect Park West, ambos han
sido apoyados por las becas de la Fundación Stella y Charles
Guttman y Fundación Altman. La noche extra y las horas del fin
de semana permiten a los encargados hacer sus mandados, trabajar,
o simplemente disfrutar de una noche libre.
El nuevo contrato ha permitido que expandamos los Miércoles
Maravillosos para ofrecer “Cuidando a las Ancianos,”
sesiones de apoyo mensual también estan disponibles los Miércoles

Sesiones de apoyo via teléfonica en Inglés y Español también
estarán disponibles.
Una coordinadora hara esfuerzos para llegar a aquellos encargados
que se encuentran aislados, y una beca adicional de la Federación
del Bienestar de los Protestantes nos permitira ofrecer, completos
Beneficios de Con-sejeria alas encargados y clientes atraves
de nuestra comunidad.
