The Family Caregiver Project continues to grow and reach out to caregivers in Brooklyn CD’s 2, 6, 7, 10, 11, and 12. Your Caregiver Team consists of: Lisa Bohmart, Social Worker; Caregiver Associates Betina Guichard and Evelyn Vasquez; and, Bethany Joseph, Director of Client Services.

Remember, we are here to answer your questions, provide emotional support through individual and group counseling, and make purchases for you, such as adult diapers, transportation assistance, or even respite, so that you can get out of the house. PSGDC has Social Adult Day Services available for seniors 60 and over who are either physically frail or cognitively impaired (dementia, Alzheimer’s).

Please call and speak to one of our Caregiver Team members to arrange for a site tour and intake assessment.

We are still offering assistance with Benefits and Entitlements, and encourage you to take a moment to look at your expenses each month. If you are spending large sums on medications, you may be eligible for EPIC, a state-sponsored prescription plan that could save you hundreds of dollars. This is only one of hundreds of programs available to seniors in New York City. Please call for an appointment to look into which benefits and entitlements programs you may be eligible for this year!

The Caregiver Project is partnered with SAGE (Senior Action in a Gay Environment) to offer caregiver services to LGBT seniors through a special grant awarded to SAGE in collaboration with PSGDC by the NYC Department for the Aging. Outreach efforts will begin immediately, but if you know someone caring for an LGBT senior, or if you know and LGBT senior who is a caregiver, please pass along our information to them and let them know we are ready, willing and able to assist them!

As tax season approaches, please take the time to sort through your receipts and paperwork and begin to get ready for April 15. Do not wait until the last minute! We will be sending out information about where to go for assistance with your tax returns and those that you are doing for your loved ones.

Stay warm, stay safe, and call us whenever you need us, afterall, that is why we are here—for you!
